Young Mathematicians Colloquium
University of Birmingham, 18th April 2018
The aim of this colloquium is to consolidate the network among young researchers and postgraduate students from all across the country, especially in the branches of mathematics studied in our school — algebra, analysis, combinatorics, applied mathematics and optimisation. The event will be divided into two parallel sessions (pure maths, and applied maths and optimisation), each of them with plenary talks and short postgraduate talks spread throughout the day.
Call for abstracts
Postgraduate students working in any field of mathematics are encouraged to submit an abstract for a short (25 minutes) talk. This includes students from the UK as well as abroad. Funding is available for students of the universities in the MAGIC network, see below. Limited funding is available for other students. The submission deadline is the 31st of March. Send submissions to pgbumps@gmail.com.

Local information
The colloquium will take place at the University of Birmingham, which is located about 2 miles from Birmingham city centre. The university is most easily reached by train, University railway station being just a short ride from Birmingham's main New Street station. Full campus maps and directions to the university can be found here. The School of Mathematics is based in Watson Building (R15 on the map).
All the talks will take place in the Watson Building.
Participants are invited to make their own accommodation arrangements if they so require. Below, we list a few possible alternatives.
- Lucas House, university run accommodation (10 minute walk from the Uni)
- Renwick House, inexpensive hostel like accommodation (10 minute walk from the Uni)
- Ibis Budget Birmingham Centre, inexpensive hotel option (45 minute walk from the Uni; bus service also available, number 61 or 63)
- Alternatively, you can find suitable accommodation via a service such as booking.com
