This course is intended as an introduction to the rapdily burgeoning research area of fusion systems. It motivates the area with some group theory, representation theory, and topology, and develops the theory of fusion systems themselves. It ends with some conjectures in the area.

The syllabus is as follows.

Week 1Fusion in finite groups
Week 2CANCELLED
Week 3Brauer pairs: fusion systems of blocks
Week 4Fusion systems, basic theory, examples
Week 5Normal subsystems
Week 6Nerves and centric linking systems
Week 7Glauberman functors and control of fusion
Week 8Conjectures and open problems
