This course is intended as an introduction to the rapdily burgeoning research area of fusion systems. It motivates the area with some group theory, representation theory, and topology, and develops the theory of fusion systems themselves. It ends with some conjectures in the area.
The syllabus is as follows.
Week 1 | Fusion in finite groups |
Week 2 | CANCELLED |
Week 3 | Brauer pairs: fusion systems of blocks |
Week 4 | Fusion systems, basic theory, examples |
Week 5 | Normal subsystems |
Week 6 | Nerves and centric linking systems |
Week 7 | Glauberman functors and control of fusion |
Week 8 | Conjectures and open problems |
