My M.Sci Students are:

Paul Griffiths, 2011 Rotating Disk Reaction Vessel This is a problem originally proposed by Schlumberger and concerns the erosion of their drill heads by acid. The problem is to determine the optimum operating conditions and to evaluate the best options for modifications of the drill head and operating process.

Instability of Spinning Liquid Jets The breakup of a liquid is a surface tension driven phenomena and has applications in numerous industrial and scientific processes. When a solid body rotation is applied to the jet one might expect the rotation to be stabilizing however it turns out the rotation is actually destabilizing to the jet. We attempt to understand this phenomena in more detail and also compare models to some recent experiemental data.
