Using email

All students are given a personal email address at the University of Birmingham. This can be accessed using a web browser via http://www.my.bham.ac.uk.

From time to time, you will receive some important emails from the University or from the School of Mathematics concerning your studies. Therefore you must check your email address regularly.

We will not normally mail you via your yahoo/hotmail/googlemail/other account. Some of these accounts allow you to do automatic mail fetch or forwarding. If you know what you are doing you might set up forwarding when available to reduce the number of accounts you need to check.

Occasionally the university will need to send you letters etc on paper by internal mail. This will arrive in the pigeonholes on the first floor. You should check your pigeonhole at least once every two weeks.

You will need to know your university user name and password for the first computer lab in the first week.
