Travel Information
By Train
The main Birmingham station is Birmingham New Street, where there are several trains each connecting Birmingham to London, the Midlands and the north.
Alternatively, there are trains connecting London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street (which is 5 minutes walk from Birmingham New Street).

From Birmingham New street one needs to take another train to come to the University of Birmingham.

The trains that stop at the University station are the London Midland trains to Redditch or Longbridge (they usually depart from platforms 8-12 at the Birmingham New Street Station).

Once you get to the University station, please follow the arrow to find the Watson building, where the meeting will take place.

Coming from the University Station
By Coach
The main coach station is now located in Oxford Street on the opposite side of Digbeth High Street, called Birmingham Central Coach Station. There is regular service to central London.
By Car
Approaching from the north west or south east along the M6:
  • Leave at Junction 6 (signposted Birmingham Central) to join the A38(M).
  • At the end of the motorway, keep to the right, go over a flyover, then through some underpasses to join the A38 Bristol Road.
  • The University is on your right, two and a half miles from the city centre.


Approaching from the M42 north:
  Leave at Junction 8 to join the M6 northbound and follow the instructions above.

Approaching from the south west:
  • Leave the M5 at Junction 4 signposted Birmingham SW) to join the A38.
  •The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway.
Approaching from the M40:
  • It is easier to turn south on the M42 and leave at Junction 1, heading north on the A38 Bristol Road.
  • The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway.


In case you would like to travel by car, please let us know in advance (by sending an email to treglowa@maths.bham.ac.uk ) in order to issue parking permits, so that you may park in campus.
