Session 3

You should now have a good idea of how you type your document using LaTeX, reflecting its overall structure, and have had quite a lot of practice in running LaTeX and debugging your LaTeX code. Although you will continue to practise and learn LaTeX, this last session consolidates what you already know, and addresses some "difficult" topics that most maths students will almost certainly require in the writing-up of their project, report or dissertation.

If you feel you do need to revise anything before you start here, you should go back and have another look at Session 1 or Session 2. Otherwise, try out the following.

As always, you should remember that LaTeX has an enormous number of packages to help with all sorts of problems from the simple to the esoteric, and it is usually better to get a special package for a particular problem than to start reprogramming parts of LaTeX yourself. I can advise Birmingham Maths students on suitable packages to use to solve their problems. You can also explore the CTAN (Comprehensive TeX Archive Network) at its main UK site here.
