About this LaTeX course

These pages contain a web-based course in typing mathematics using LaTeX.

The LaTeX course

The course is organized as follows:

  1. There are some information pages about what LaTeX is, what it can do, and advice on how to get the most from it.
  2. There are three suggested "study sessions", in which you view LaTeX source files and the formatted output they produce. You are then directed to download the source files, change them and process them yourself.
  3. There are also some further example documents you can study on your own. For these, you should compare the source file(s) with the output, and check you understand what is going on.

These sections have links between them, so you can start whereever you like, and follow up the other information as or when you need it.

People who don't know whether LaTeX is for them might start reading the information pages first to get a quick overview. If you already know that you want to learn LaTeX but have never studied it before, you should follow the suggested study sessions first, and follow the links to the other parts as needed. Other people with more experience in LaTeX might start with the more advanced example documents.
