James Sprittles

I am a Research Fellow in the School of Mathematics at the University of Birmingham.

My research is concerned with a cluster of industrially relevant capillary flows in which conventional approaches fail. Incorporating a recent model which relieves the usual paradoxes, the interface formation model, into a numerical platform we are able to study such flows.

So far this platform has simulated drop impact and spreading on a solid surface, for which videos/results can be found here, and flow over chemically patterned surfaces. I have described my research and the background to it here.

My PhD research was under the supervision of Professor Yulii Shikhmurzaev and was funded via an EPSRC CASE award from Kodak European Reseach. My EPSRC Research Fellowship is concerned with the propagation of wetting fronts through porous media.
