The 2016 Multi-Scale Biology Study Group (MBSG 2016) took place at the University of Birmingham Edgbaston Campus from 12th-15th December 2016, hosted by the UoB Mathematical Biology Group. The event was jointly funded by POEMS (Predictive modelling for healthcare technology through maths) and MSB-Net (UK Multi-Scale Biology Network).

MBSG 2016 brought together biologists and clinicians with mathematicians and computer scientists to tackle research questions posed by the experimentalists, following the successful blueprint of the Mathematics in Medicine and Mathematics in the Plant Sciences Study Groups.

A brief meeting report by Gemma Cupples is available here.

The group reports available so far are given below:

  1. Using mathematical modelling to understand the role of the glycocalyx
  2. Analysis of blood flow in microvascular anastomoses
  3. Root segmentation over multiple time points
  4. T cell versus T cell - a study of the immune response to a T cell cancer
  5. Can Vitamin D Metabolomics Analysis be Utilised to Identify Pregnant Women at High Risk of Pre-eclampsia?
